Legal Assistance
The Beirut Bar Association is providing legal pro bono services as part of an accountability drive launched after the blast. The BBA has set up seven makeshift centres in blast-hit districts in the aftermath of the explosion to assist the victims in filling complaints. Around 400 volunteer lawyers have volunteered their services, in addition to 250 legal aids and over 450 real estate appraisers who have helped measure the cost of material damages were part of this campaign. A Legal Committee of 15 lawyers is also doing legal research and studies in relation to the blast.
So far the BBA has received more than 1400 complaints, they submitted till now around 680 criminal law suits on behalf of the victims and their families before the Judicial Council and the General prosecutor, and the remaining number of lawsuits to be submitted soon.
Another initiative of the BBA supported by the UNDP is ongoing in providing basic legal counselling to the victims of the blast, it does not include submitting cases to Court.

LAW and Legal Action Lebanon are providing support to survivors’ group Victims of the Beirut August Massacre. The group of over 1000 victims and families of victims have called upon the international community to support their pursuit of justice, requesting an independent and impartial investigation and prosecution to hold accountable those responsible and order damages to the victims.
On 13 November, LAW released the first comprehensive report gathering all available facts relating to the 4 August Beirut explosion and the domestic investigation thus far. The report has been submitted to key individuals at the UN, and to representatives of key member states.

Seeds for Legal Initiatives / نواة للمبادرات القانونية
After one year from the dire Beirut Blast, Seeds has organized a social media information campaign in relation to the blast, the rights of the victims, the obligations of the State, the procedure to claim compensation and other initiatives that would help ease the pain of the victims of the blast.
SEEDS organize weekly podcasts under the name of #HkiniKanoun and they follow up on the judicial case of the Beirut Blast.
